Just watched the game and was impressed by Pivetta, but man o man, our O has really sucked.

Especially when Winckowski seemed to have found his mojo again with 2 good innings. A fluke HR which Dalbec tried but failed to match before K'ing again on a slider.

The difference between AAA and MLB must be the sweeping slider . It seems to separate the players from the pretenders.

I wouldn't hold that one freak HR against Wink. He's had a very good year and may rescue that Beni trade.

Pivetta is looking like he's earned the 5th slot in '24.

I think they give Houck the 4 slot. I just hope they don't plan on Crawford and Sale, and go for just one SP addition.

0 for 10 with RISP, that looks very familiar

Exactly: Pivetta was really good tonight. Defense wasn't half bad either.

But RISP disease (0 for 10 with RISP) reappeared and blew the Sox away.

Thanks to splendidsplinter for last night's win and almost 2 in a row.

The offense is leading me to think maybe we do need to spend a little, this winter on it. (Losing JT and Duvall and gaining Rafaela, Abreu and maybe more from Story, Urias and Reyes may not be enough.)

the Sox are top 7 or better in most every offensive category except home runs (17th), triples (21st) and walks (23rd). interestingly, they are 3rd in hits, yet they drop to 7th in total bases. lots of singles and doubles leading to lots of runs. and lots of runners LOB. it would be nice to see more walks and a bit more power next season. with that said, the offense was good enough to get us into the postseason this year, it was the pitching that did us in.

    OPS+ 103 T12 in MLB

    Home OPS .802
    Road OPS .710

    Conclusion: thoroughly mediocre offense
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

Ohtani will not get a guaranteed $500 million.

overall OPS is 7th, as is slugging. OBP is 10th. definitely could use some more pop. the Braves top 5 players combined have 20 more home runs than the entire Red Sox team. overall, i say a bit above mediocre but still good enough to make the playoffs if the pitching and defense weren't so freakin' awful.

Yeah, the thing we always have to keep in mind is that Fenway is a hitter's park, so our offensive numbers are never quite as good as they look. By the same token our pitching numbers aren't as bad as they look.

The offense was better than mediocre until August.

It's been one long cluster funk.
