Thread: Sosa traded to Orioles

    Sosa traded to Orioles

Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa will be traded to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Jerry Hairston and at least two minor-leaguers, pending physicals and approval from commissioner Bud Selig and the players' association. An Orioles source told ESPN's Tim Kurkjian that the only way the trade will not happen is if someone fails a physical.

Lol, you literally posted this 2 minutes before I was about to. Anyways, this just makes the toughest division in the MLB even tougher. Especially if Sosa can stay healthy and the Orioles pitching improves.

Orioles are going to be sub-.500 for yet another year. I don't feel threatened at all.

If they actually tried to add pitching in addition to their lineup then I'd be concerned, but until then I still think they'll finish behind the Yankees and Red Sox.

Pitching is key and with Sydney Ponson out there... I am fine with it. Sosa Tejada is a pretty good 1-2 I might say though. Not even close to Manny Papi.

There's also a no trade clause in sosa's contract. The cubs are either going to sign burnitz or ordonez now.

Sosa is really on the downfall. I like him and hope he has some big years, i would laugh like crazy if this blows up in the Orioles face though.

    OPS+
    2001: 201
    2002: 160
    2003: 135
    2002: 110
I'd have to say, I don't know, he's in store for a below average year.

I think this is a good trade for both sides. Sosa will only help Baltimore's lineup for a few years, and the Cubs acheived what they have been hoping to for a while. It may not make the Cubs a better team in 2005, but it will allow them to improve in the near future.
