Thread: Randy Johnson

  1. #1
Has anyone heard that Randy Johnson might be coming to the Red Sox in a blockbuster deal?

  2. #2
Yeah, I saw that on ESPN a few weeks ago. It looked like a great idea, but I don't think it's going to happen. If it does, somehow, look out for the best pitching staff EVER!

    Pedro
    RJ
    Schill
    Lowe
    Wake

With Lowe and Wake as 4th and 5th starters, that's pretty fricking sweet.

Would that be a record for the oldest pitching staff in baseball history? Who'd we have to give up to get Johnson?

I bet it won't happen. The Sox would either have to give up monster prospects, or soem damn good player(s). I doubt Theo is all that interested in trading for a 40-year-old guy anyway (even if he IS ridiculously nasty)

This was a very old rumor. It is long dormant now I believe, and it certainly wont happen.

It was initially gonna be for Nixon (maybe some prospects as well) but with his back injury, it's a no-go. Not saying that I dislike the Big Unit, but we need Nixon more than we need him. Our 4 and 5 starters could be 2 or 3 on most other teams.

As much as I would like for that trade to happen, and have the Red Sox develop, perhaps, the best 5-man rotation since, well, since ever, you got to look at what you're losing in this deal. You're giving up a great talent in nixon and getting Johnson for one one or two years ( until he retires ). Besides if Nixon is traded who would play in the outfield for him. We can't rely on just Millar, Burks, and Kapler to fill that space for the rest of the year. Unless we trade Nomar for Magglio. . . . . .

Yea, I think this was realized a while back by the management and thats why the deal was not made, or an attempt at the deal was not made.

Welcome to the site by the way. I hope you stick around through the season.

Yup, as mcgilla just pointed out, Johnson is on the decline. I'm extremely happy that we ended up with schilling, the better of the two D-Back aces.
