Heard this stat earlier today. When a batter on a ML team hits a 3-run homer, his team wins 80% of their games.
When a pitcher posts a quality start, his team wins 70% of their games.

    Let's do both.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

I agree. But that could still leave the score at 3-3 after 6 innings.

Theoretically, a pitcher could throw a quality start in every game he pitched during the season and still end up with an ERA of 4.50.

Let's see if the new Minny team (Cleveland now in trouble) can finally win a game or two in the Big Apple--against a much weakened nemesis. Theyv'e played so wretchedly there in recent years. Maybe this will be their statement weekend.

The Skanks have beaten the Twinkies at a .700 + clip at the Stadium over the last 2 decades. The script always goes the same way -- the Twinkies take an early lead and then tighten up and the Twins manager makes several panic moves handing the Yankees a victory. It is like a broken record.

    No such luck.

The Twins just roll over for the Yankees, no matter how well the Twins are playing.

You heard it from Earl Weaver.

I actually heard those stats while watching the Cubs' game yesterday afternoon, but the 3 run homer does sound like something the late, great Earl Weaver would say.
